A frequent visitor to Anguilla, New York resident Thomas Edison Kelly enjoys sailing during his time on the Caribbean island. However, leisure is not the only reason for his trips to the British Overseas Territory: he is the founder of the Anguilla Youth Sports Foundation (AYSF), which since 2011 has hosted an annual basketball camp that has taught fundamental skills and sportsmanship to hundreds of schoolchildren. The camp has attracted several former and current NBA players to serve in coaching capacities.
The five-day event is part of the AYSF Sports and Music Week, which concludes with a music festival at Sandy Ground beach that has drawn prominent entertainers. The 2014 festival, for instance, featured performances by American record producer and singer-songwriter Ryan Leslie and soul violinist Lee England Jr.
When not in Anguilla, Thomas Edison Kelly works as a managing director at Aegis Capital. He holds a bachelor’s in political science and history from Barry University and is a supporter of Moving Mountains Inc.
